The base is obviously very important, but the head is just as important in my view too. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I came across a Manfrotto <strong>405<\/strong> model a few years back and this is almost perfect for what I need.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.iangrandjean.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/405.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.iangrandjean.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/405.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2641\" width=\"544\" height=\"393\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.iangrandjean.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/405.jpg 680w, https:\/\/www.iangrandjean.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/405-300x217.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 544px) 100vw, 544px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Manforotto 405<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>It&rsquo;s sufficiently sturdy to hold pretty much anything I put on it, and the three adjusting knobs allow the plateau to be moved very precisely in any direction. This is 16cm high and lives on my larger <strong>055<\/strong> tripod.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I also have a series of regular ball heads, and up until recently I found these were perfectly ok, but with the serious disadvantage (to me) of not being as precise to regulate. Lo and behold they had a couple of Manfrotto <strong>410<\/strong>, the smaller brother of the large <strong>405<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.iangrandjean.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/410.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.iangrandjean.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/410.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2643\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.iangrandjean.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/410.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.iangrandjean.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/410-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.iangrandjean.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/410-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.iangrandjean.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/410-100x100.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Manfrotto 410<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>This is essentially the same as the <strong>405<\/strong> but in a smaller build &#8211; it&rsquo;s 13cm high, the knobs have the same functions, and there is the same <strong>410-PL<\/strong> mounting plate which means I can interchange the SMALLRIG quick-release adapteur I&rsquo;ve mounted on the other head, with this one, just by changing the plate over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hurry up DHL&#8230;..<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Correction &#8211; tripod &lsquo;head&rsquo; talk.
