It doesn&rsquo;t really matter &#8211; it was more for fun than anything else, but it got me thinking about one of my recent purchases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I use a medium-tele zoom, the 70-200 f\/4 Nikkor, and Nikon, for reasons better known to themselves, decided to supply the lens <strong>without<\/strong> a tripod mounting collar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.iangrandjean.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Nikon-RT1-807x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1563\" width=\"259\" height=\"329\"\/><figcaption>Nikon RT-1<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"text-align:left\">This little beauty, the RT-1, costs\u2026.wait for it&#8230;<strong>228\u20ac<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I decided that I could do better &#8211; or at least, the same, but cheaper\u2026.so I had a look around eBay and Amazon etc. and came up with this<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.iangrandjean.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/iShoot.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1564\" width=\"377\" height=\"377\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.iangrandjean.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/iShoot.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.iangrandjean.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/iShoot-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.iangrandjean.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/iShoot-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.iangrandjean.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/iShoot-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.iangrandjean.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/iShoot-100x100.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 377px) 100vw, 377px\" \/><figcaption>iShoot RT-1<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is \u00ab\u00a0almost exactly the same\u00a0\u00bb and cost me<strong> 28\u20ac<\/strong> delivered to my door. <em>I can&rsquo;t help thinking that somewhere along the line someone is taking the piss here&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Anyway &#8211; this \u00ab\u00a0almost exactly the same\u00a0\u00bb tripod collar is, in fact, better than the original Nikon version because it allows me to use it with the Arca style mounting plates I have on all of my tripods. It is exceptionally well manufactured &#8211; the locking button moves smoothly into place, the internal lining on the collar grips the lens without crushing it &#8211; it simply works perfectly &#8211; 10 times cheaper than the original Nikon version.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Is it any wonder that people look elsewhere? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Oh yes, and while I was looking around I came across the <strong>Really Right Stuff <\/strong>version &#8211; these are the people I love to hate as I&rsquo;m fairly sure they simply rebrand Chinese copies and resell them at 20 times the price &#8211; their version costs 195\u20ac &#8211; a bargain I hear you say&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>How can Something be &lsquo;almost&rsquo; exactly the same as something else &#8211; it&rsquo;s either the same or it isn&rsquo;t, isn&rsquo;t it?
