It’s a variable aperture telephoto zoom, and with a ‘modest’ 2x converter will give me 800mm at f\/8.0 which is still within the range of the auto-focusing\/exposure electronics of my camera body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It’s a large lens, with plenty of glass moving in all sorts of different ways inside, but strangely enough it’s almost exactly the same length and weight as the 70-200, so handling is not a real concern. In any case, given the restricted angle of view, this is a lens to use on a tripod.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
